Mark K. Smallhouse

Specializing in corporate, business and tax planning, commercial property and integrated estate planning, Mark Smallhouse is a Reno, Nevada-based attorney with over 26 years of experience in the field. Mr. Smallhouse takes his business, and yours, seriously and is an active member of both the Nevada and California State Bar Associations. He is also on the Executive Committee of the Nevada State Bar Association’s Business Law Section, which is responsible for drafting changes, additions and amendments to Nevada’s business laws, including those covering corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies.

After obtaining his Juris Doctorate from the University of Arizona College of Law, from which he graduated with high distinction, Mr. Smallhouse began his legal career with Bingham McCutchen (then McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen), a highly respected global law firm. His practice at this firm was focused on representing regional and national technology clients in corporate, taxation, commercial finance and real estate matters. It was here that he developed the business acumen for which he is so widely known. Some of his more notable accomplishments here were representing Lane Publishing Company in its acquisition by Time-Warner, Inc. and advising real estate clients in several of the then largest commercial real estate transactions in Silicon Valley history.

Later on in his career, Mr. Smallhouse became a partner in the Los Altos, California law firm Myers, Hawley, McDonnell & Smallhouse, where he counseled small- to medium-sized clients on business and tax planning, as well as commercial real estate matters.

Mr. Smallhouse’s entrepreneurial ambitions were realized with the founding of Legal Compliance Software, a Silicon Valley software development company producing legal compliance and form automation software. The company’s software was distributed by Matthew Bender & Company, a major legal publisher.

In addition to founding Nevantage, Mr. Smallhouse heads the New Venture Attorneys’ Reno, Nevada office. When he isn’t practicing law, he pursues his other passion: ski racing, in which he competes at the masters’ level.  He has also served on the boards the Nevada Youth Ski Education Foundation and the Far West Masters Scholarship Program.  He is licensed as a referee and a technical delegate by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association. In addition to all of his legal duties, he also serves as a race official at junior and masters’ level ski races.
